BE HAPPY. BE A DOG.

i just walked my girlfriend's dog and took him to the park. i realized that a dog (or other pet/animal) is already born into their joy and their duty. there is nothing for them to do. by that, i mean they don't have to think to do their duty (no pun intended), they just do it. now, that i've been lucky enough to identify my primary duties in this life; i'll just imitate my girlfriend's dog, because he just acts from his authentic self without having to double check everything: he is just constantly doing what he was born to do. that's it, and nothing else. for him, there is nowhere else to go but where he is, and nothing else to do but what he is doing or not doing.

so, now i will be happy by being a dog. strange maybe, but helpful at the same time.

Dogs are truly wonderful creatures. I have had Newfoundland's for my whole (if short, haha) life, and dogs are just amazing animals. The reason why dogs are so happy and don't worry about anything is that they live IN THE MOMENT. We live in the future or the past--we think about something that we're going to do tomorrow, a deadline that we have. Or, we worry about past commitments that we made or things that we did. Dogs don't take things personally, they just DO, they go by instincts. I would like to cite the genius Cesar Millan for what I said in this comment, because reading his books and watching his shows gave me all of that haha. I was just about to write a post like this myself on my blog about the same exact thing. Well, great minds think alike. There's a new post on my blog too, if not about dogs haha.

I just want to add my 2 cents to your interesting post and Moose's comment...

it's true that a relationship with a dog can be rewarding due to their generally happy and loyal nature. they consistently bring that to the table. contrast that with relationships with people, and you'll find that the difficulty level increases because of people's tendency to as Moose said, "live in the future or the past...think about something that we're going to do tomorrow, a deadline that we have...worry about past commitments that we made or things that we did". obviously as humans, we are more complicated and not always aware of how our actions and demeanor affect others...

i find it hard to stay in a bad mood after spending 5 minutes with my pup. her happiness and loyalty rubs off on me and i'd be remiss if i didn't then try to apply the same principals to the people i deal with day to day.

thanks for the thought provoking post! =P
