Get Paid For Lounging Around Great Barrier Reef

Steve Morozumi for fluxlife

i just got a follow on twitter today from the employer offering $105,000.00 USD to travel around this part of Australia for 6 months, find out what the islands have to offer, and blog about it. the employer's server(s) is/are jammed and i can't access it (not surprised). i thought it was another twitter spammer; but no, it's real. surprisingly, only about 200 people have applied for it so far...

here's the NPR report: Get Paid For Lounging...

here's the twitter profile following me: The_Best_Job

update: i got on the site starting on 1/14/09: http://www.islandreefjob.com

would you take the job if it was offered to you? why do you think they're paying so much money for the position, and putting it up for global application? happy job hunting if you decide to go for it! :D

I'm going to have to check out your links and check this out. I have heard about courier jobs before, but always thought it was an urban legend, no?

They're doing it because they want to

A) Promote Australia to be on people's minds when they're thinking about planning family vacations just from this buzz

B) If people are flown in to check out the job, they may be inclined to fall in love with it so much that they end up moving to Australia and living there. And/or recommending everyone to go there for a vacation

C) This person who 'wins' the job will blog about it with fabulous pictures and make everyone so envious, they'll hop on the next plane to get there for a vacation instead of going to the Caribbean or somewhere trite.

:)

What I need right now is a way to circumvent the server crashing and get ahead of all the other applicants at the same time! ;-)

I think it sounds awesome. I wouldn't apply for it simply because I'm MANY MANY miles away from there, and I just honestly couldn't be that far away from my family. Also, you have to be a great swimmer to be considered for the position. I am not. It still sounds incredible... I read about this job today on Yahoo as well.

I saw this story when I was getting ready for work this morning. I more than seriously thought about looking into it ;)

nubiz: if i can find a work around, i'll let you know, you do the same!

Miss JC: the swimmer thing makes sense, but i hadn't thought of that.

Rylee's Auntie: i'm considering it! if you check the link to the cached Google page, apparently there's a video as part of the app.

My husband was actually interviewed on Polish television about this exact job. The news crew came up to us while we were having lunch at a sushi place.

I thought this was a joke. My coworkers posted this on the bulletin board. I was like whatever. I guess it was for real huh? Are you going to Australia?
