Gay Bishop Speaks about Inauguration on Daily Show

itcanbe for fluxlife

Bishop Gene Robinson is well spoken, intelligent, composed and respectful. He also makes a quip that has Jon Stewart cracking up - usually pretty hard for a guest to do.

It's impressive to see his composure, especially in light of the fact that he was dropped from an HBO inaugural dedication ceremony.

We here at the fluxlife blog would love to see Prop 8 erased from the books. Maybe Bishop Gene Robinson can help accomplish this through his connection with the Obama administration.

It was a funny question, but the quick response was amazing and so funny. Thanks for running this video.
Yup, Prop 8 must go.

Obama opposes gay marriage though.

As for HBO dropping him from the inauguration ceremony, I'm just surprused that HBO wasted its air time on any of it. I would state with confidence that anyone with HBO was at the time getting the inauguration on several other TV channels.

does Obama oppose gay marriage, or does he think it's good for his ratings and possible reelection to publicly oppose gay marriage?

Obama is a civil rights proponent. civil rights is based on equal rights for all. what one has, cannot be taken from another. if one can get married, then all must be able to marry.

I think Obama might start to change his view if the Prop 8 problem can be posed to him as a civil rights problem. Although the Prop 8 problem is obvious to most of us, reeducating others on the Consitution and civil rights will be necessary before a change happens.

I think Obama is for gay marriage, but he does not want to hurt his approval by coming right out and saying so. But if we think back to the 2004 keynote speech at the DNC, he made a point of mentioning the "gay friends" and I believe that was his way of saying I'm with you.
When people bring up that he said he does not want to change the definition of marriage, I propose that he is of the same thought as I am, the ones changing the definition are the ones asking to redefine it to be one man, one woman. Historically, marriage has never actually been defined as a heterosexual institution. Only in the religious aspect has it been considered exclusively heterosexual, and here we are simply talking about a civil aspect.
Just points to ponder...
Keep up the great work, I love your blog!

Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog!

That's a great clip. Like you said, it's rare for guests to get Jon Stewart laughing that hard!
